Sonnet 98
william shakespeare (1609)

From you have I been absent in the spring
When proud-pied April, dress'd in all his trim,
Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,
That heavy Saturn laugh'd and leap'd with him.
Yet nor the lays of birds, nor the sweet smell
Of different flowers in odour and in hue,
Could make me any summer's story tell,
Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew:
Nor did I wonder at the lily's white,
Nor praise the deep vermilion in the rose;
They were but sweet, but figures of delight,
Drawn after you, you pattern of all those.
Yet seem'd it winter still, and you away,
As with your shadow I with these did play.

FISCHLI UND WEISS

ENTHUSIASM IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL ENGINES OF SUCCESS. WHEN YOU DO A THING, DO IT WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT. PUT YOUR WHOLE SOUL INTO IT. STAMP IT WITH YOUR OWN PERSONALITY. BE ACTIVE, BE ENERGETIC, BE ENTHUSIASTIC AND FAITHFUL, AND YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH YOUR OBJECTIVE. NOTHING GREAT WAS EVER ACHIEVED WITHOUT ENTHUSIASM.
RALPH WALDO EMARSON

Power is the ability of a person to control or influence the choices of other persons.
The term authority is often used for power perceived as legitimate by the social structure.
Power can be seen as evil or unjust; indeed all evil and injustice committed by man against man involve power

Studio Najbrt

Praha
today we had the great honour to get to know Mikulas Machacek from the Czech Republic. He presented the projects of his studio NAJBRT in our school. After the presentation we continued the discussion in a bar...with a few glass of wine ;-) so probably the next journey goes to Prag.

Fonts vs Typefaces
"the physical embodiment of a collection of letters (whether it's case of metal pieces or a computer file) is a font. When referring to the design of the collection (the way it looks) you call it a typeface"
Mark Simonson

PURISTA
designed by Tomas Brousil
published by Suitcase
available from FontShop and MyFonts

choosen by ELLEN LUPTON
Ellen Lupton is a writer, graphic designer and curator of contemporary design at CooperHewitt, National Design Museum. Her book "Thinking with Type" is a basic guide to typography directed at everyone who works with words.

"I've been feeling hungry for a stylish, edgy sans who enjoys evenings out on the town and long morning of crisp conversation. In other words, I've been craving a font who likes to party but who can also help out with the dishes. Purista is open-minded (with broad language support), brimming with style, sophistication, funcrionality, and an exciting range of weights"
Ellen Lupton

MINUSCULE
designed by Thomas Huot-Marchand
published by 256tm
available from "MyFonts

Choosen by ERIK SPIEKERMANN
Erik Spiekermann is an internatinally renowned typeface and information designer who is now also a movie star, thanks to the film "Helvetica". He founded MetaDesign in 1979, Fontshop in 1989, and now runs SpiekermannPartners in Berlin, London and San Francisco.

" The first impression is shock. A typeface for extremely small sizes shown in 48pt is not necessarily pretty.
That is the nature of type specimens: we want to see details that aren't meant to be seen in the real application. Thomas Huot-Marchand, the designer, goes to extreme lenghts to explain these details, but the first thing I did was to print a page from the PDF specimen provided. It works! Extremely readable at extremely small sizes, i.e. anything below 7pt."
Erik Spiekermann

On April 1st, 1977 "The Guardian" published a seven page "special report" about San Serriffe, a small republic in the Indian Ocean. The report included detailed facts about the geography, culture and economy of this unknown land.
The newspaper received hundreds of requests from readers seeking further information. However, the island never existed and the report was one of the first April Fool's Day hoaxes by a national newspaper in Britain.
Good April to everybody!!!

"Do the Right Thing"
is a 1989 film produced, written, and directed by Spike Lee. The films tells a tale of racial conflict in a multi-ethnic community in Brooklyn, on the hottest day of the year.

For many viewers, one of many questions at the end of the film is whether Mookie does the right thing when he throws the garbage can through the window, thus inciting the riot that destroys Sal's pizzeria. The question is directly raised by the contradictory quotations that end the film, one advocating non-violence, the other advocating violent self-defense in response to oppression. However, Lee himself has stated that only white viewers ask this question. He believes the key point is that Mookie was angry at the death of Radio Raheem, and that viewers who question the riot's justification are implicitly valuing white property over the life of black man.

sometimes LESS is MORE:
it's just a lemon tree...

choose life. choose a job. choose a career. choose a family. choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. choose fixed rate mortgage payments. choose a starter home. choose yours friends. choose leisurewear and matching luggage. choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. choose DIY and wondering who the fuck ou are on a sunday morning. choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.
choose your future.
choose life
